Stephen Davis - Rock and Roll Biographer
We know their names, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith, Bob Marley, Guns N' Roses, The Rolling Stones, Carly Simon but what about their lives? This article is your ticket to learn more about these famed musicians through the books written by Stephen Davis, rock and roll biographer. His latest book released in November 2017, is entitled "Gold Dust Woman: A Biography of Stevie Nicks."
Stevie Nicks
Her voice is unmistakable, you know it the second you hear it. Most will remember her as a member of Fleetwood Mac but Stevie has performed with so many other talented artists over the years. Stephen spells it out for us in his newest biography, Gold Dust Woman: The Biography of Stevie Nicks.
One of my personal favorite songs performed by Stevie is Silent Night on the CD "A Very Special Christmas" first released in 1987 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver for the Special Olympics.
Carly Simon Biography - With Photographs by Peter Simon
This unauthorized biography on music legend Carly Simon is a fantastic read. It starts out like a history book, telling of the Simon family and rolls through Carly's life that includes many ups and downs. Carly's website professes disassociation with the book but I think it is a fantastic collection of her life, her persona, her family, and how her music tells the story of her life. Since I am a long-time follower of Carly (from high school when she had her first hit), as I read along, I would put that "album" on while reading that particular chapter, listen to that set of music, and then reread who or what all the songs were about. All photos are by her brother, reknowned photographer Peter Simon.
Carly Simon's Coming Around Again
This version of the song goes along well with Davis' book since it has original family videos included in the music video.
LZ-'75 - Led Zepplin's World Tour
This is the story of Led Zepplin's world tour in 1975. After writing it, the manuscript was lost and in 1996, Davis found his notes. It was published and made the New York Times Bestseller list.

Jim Morrison
Come on baby light my fire. Often times we know the songs, who sang it but know nothing about the artist. That is Jim Morrison for me. I was an impressionable teenager in the 70's dancing to this song at junior high sock hops with those kid bands covering the most popular songs of the day. I did have an older brother so I took a lot of my musical likings from him until I figured out my own style. Stephen gives and in-depth look at Jim Morrison in his book, "Jim Morrison: Life, Death, Legend."
