There Is: Proof of Heaven!

When you have a life altering experience, I think it is only human to try to find out more information about how it has affected you. In 2010, I lost my husband to complications during neurosurgery for a DAVF (dural arteriovenous fistula) which, for ease in comparisons, has similar symptoms to an aneurism.

I was unable to read a book for over a year due to the grieving process. My brain had so many other things to process, I could not concentrate on anything far away, in the future, or of substance other than the tasks of my daily life of continuing to raise two of our five children who were still living at home.

Slowly as months passed and I became used to our new normal I got back into reading, starting first with the plethora of books given to me by friends and family to read about grief and loss. About a year ago, I was able to read a novel and since then my love of reading had returned.

When I saw the book, Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife, it piqued my interest and my immediate thoughts were "I have to read that book!" Not only because I wonder on a daily basis about heaven (where I believe my husband is) but this was written BY and happened TO a neurosurgeon--someone trained to accept science as the logical order of the universe. Since my husband was an engineer with the same type of scientific training as Dr. Alexander and, in addition to his illness being of the neurological type, I felt like reading this book may possibly help me understand the tragedy of our loss with the insight of Dr. Alexander from a divine and scientific perspective. Please note, my husband was a faith-filled man and was a follower and believer of the Catholic faith.

I was right. Dr. Eben Alexander lends us his soul and an insight into a world we can only imagine. He gives us a family perspective that is so important when tragedy strikes. His medical perspective is professional, personal, and astounding leading us to understand theories we can only imagine if we are not in the medical field. Combine these two and you get a unique human perspective into an afterlife experience.

A sequel of sorts to Proof of Heaven. Much connection is explained to ancient and current history. This "book" I listened to in CD form and had to listen twice to each CD there was so much information contained. You will have questions after reading this book.

I believe this book helped me over the hump of my grief and I highly recommend the reading of it for people who have suffered a loss especially from brain injury. It is also an excellent read to gain insight into a glimpse of heaven or just to become better educated on the scientific aspects of the afterlife.
